Can I tell you a secret?
I spent over 5 hours of my own time providing individual feedback to the 40 applicants who asked for it recently (admittedly, there were a further 75 applicants who didn’t ask!). These were applicants who weren’t successful in being shortlisted, but who still put considerable time in to their application in the hope of this being the next step in their career.
Why spend so much time when a ‘Sorry you didn’t get shortlisted’ might have done? Because I value people’s time, and actually, if someone is asking for help, for feedback, for advice on how to do better, we should be offering that hand, sharing our feedback and not turning on to other things. We might be busy, we might all have a lot on, but so do each of these applicants. So do each of these individuals who have poured their all in to hoping they’d get an interview.
I like to treat others how I’d like to be treated, and I will always work in this way, no matter what role I’m in, or how much else I have on. People deserve to be treated like people!
